The Parish Church of St. John the Baptist in Laas

Site Nr. 007

The church, dating back to 1220/1230 – with traces of a far earlier building – consists of marble blocks from Laas. The Romanesque part finds parallels in Lombardy and on Lake Como. The nave of this apsidial church has a flat ceiling and a semi-circular vaulted apse. The earlier, originally free-standing, high slender tower dates back to the 12th century. The early medieval mensa relief shows the three martyrs St Sisinius, St Alexander and St Martyrius.
