The Church of St. Nicholas in Latsch
Site Nr. 009
This treasure, built before 1200 as a tour de choeur i.e. a tower on a cross-shaped church, and mentioned in documents for the first time in 1326, originally belonged to the Order of the Knights of Malta. The tower is low and massive; the coupled circular windows are equipped with dividing pillars, cushion capitals and springers. A square masonry spire closes it off at the top. The choir has barrel vaulting. The flat-ceilinged nave has a number of oylets. On the south façade there is a Descent from the Cross, only preserved in fragments. Its iconography suggests execution in c. 1210.
